Organization Profile

The main constituency group served by our organization is:

• Citizens,
• Non-governmental organizations,
• NGO networks
• Formal and non-formal citizen and youth-based groups

The main types of activities we carry out to achieve our mission are:

• Monitoring the work of municipal and central governments
• Organizing and implementing Advocacy campaigns at national and municipal levels
• Building NGO capacities, offering trainings and assistance to NGOs particularly in government-monitoring, election monitoring and advocacy
• Facilitating dialogue between government officials and citizens to ensure citizen participation in decision-making

KDI is financed through international and domestic funding

Brief description of cooperation with other stakeholders (NGOs, local authorities, business sector, media, and general public):

Through its six field coordinators covering six municipalities in Kosovo, KDI has played and continues to have an important role on facilitating and promoting a “two-way street” between government officials and civil society. KDI staff works primarily on mobilization of civic sector including NGO networks to monitor the performance of municipal and central governments and to advocate for issues, legislation and policies that are viewed as citizen concerns. As KDI mission calls for enhancing transparency, accountability and responsiveness of government officials and citizen participation in political processes, KDI engages with local and central electronic and print media to ensure that general public is regularly informed on their work and also has access to monitoring reports and findings.

Details of the resources our organizations has available for implementation of the project (financial, human resources, space, equipment, etc.):

KDI has 9 full-time staff which includes Executive Director, Program Managers and Field Coordinators, more than 20 non formal NGO network partners and actually 5 formal NGO network partners, engaged in 5 municipalities.

KDI has two offices, including following assets:

Four Desktop Computers, Cannon LBP-910 Laser-jet printer
Cannon NP 6317 photocopying machine
Office inventory: five office desks
KDI owns a vehicle (Type Ford Explorer, production 1999) which is donated by National Democratic Institute.


TRAINING/LEARNING BACKGROUND AND NEEDS

Since 2000, KDI staff delivered series of trainings, workshops and consultations for more than 70 NGO partners, citizen-based, youth and minority groups. As part of NDI civic forum program, KDI staff facilitated series of ten discussion topics with more than 2000 citizens Kosovo-wide. On 2003 (March-June), KDI staff was contracted to implement the OSCE ReGoCip project in 15 municipalities. KDI staff delivered 4 series of trainings for 120 OSCE partners. KDI staff was awarded with certificate.
